  • Humanoid Robots are at your doorstep – will you let them in?

As a leader, you have likely spent the last few years thinking about the incredible power of AI.

We have seen language models like ChatGPT rewrite the rules of content creation, data analysis and customer service, meanwhile in the background, AI robots are about to be presented as a solution for all your domestic maintenance needs.

I recently watched a fascinating discussion with Peter Diamandis, Bernt Bornich and Dave Blundin that provides us with some insight into the shift from AI to physical AI.

The abstract intelligence of the cloud is about to be embodied in humanoid robots that will walk, learn and interact with us in the real world. This is not science fiction, it’s the next step in the AI revolution and it’s happening at scale in 2026!

Abundant Labour at your Fingertips from $300/month

We have been witnessing that AI and robotics would first conquer the structured, repetitive world of industrial manufacturing, however as highlighted during the conversation with Diamandis, Bornich and Blundin, the real driver of this next wave will be the consumer market.

Why?

Because the home is the most complex and data-rich environment we have. It’s a complex, unpredictable and a constantly evolving environment. This makes it a perfect training ground for an AI to learn, adapt and interact with the physical world.

Think about the diversity of tasks in a typical home, for example cooking, cleaning, organising and interacting with a multitude of objects, ingredients, substances and tools. As Peter Diamandis mentions, all these chores could be handled simply and affordably by robots for $300 per month, or $10 per day, $0.40 cents per hour.

The consumer opportunity in the domestic context is a far richer dataset than any factory floor. As Bernt Bornich, a robotics CEO puts it, intelligence is grounded in understanding the physical world. An AI that can successfully navigate a home can be applied to almost any other environment.

This means that the most significant data source for training future AI will not be the internet, but fleets of robots interacting with the real world.

For leaders, this has profound implications!

Your data strategy needs to evolve beyond text and images to encompass physical world interactions. Your product development needs to consider how your offerings will integrate with a world of embodied AI and your understanding of the consumer will need to be deeper than ever before!

The “iPhone Moment” for Robotics is Coming

We are rapidly approaching what many are calling the “iPhone moment” for robotics.

This is the point where the technology becomes so capable, affordable and user-friendly that it transitions from a niche product to a mass-market phenomenon.

The goal is to create a “hard take off moment” where robots can build the infrastructure for their own proliferation, leading to an abundance of labour and intelligence. This will have a seismic impact on our economy and society. It will create new industries, redefine existing ones and change the very nature of work.

As a leader, you need to be asking yourself:

How will my organisation adapt to this new reality?

What opportunities will this create for my business?

And what are the risks of being left behind?

How to Prepare for the Future?

The first step is to educate yourself.

This is a rapidly evolving field and staying informed is crucial.

I highly recommend following the work of Peter Diamandis, a visionary entrepreneur and author who is at the forefront of this technological revolution. His insights will provide you with a high-level understanding of the trends shaping our future. Additionally, I also recommend following Dave Blundin, an investor and entrepreneur with deep expertise in the field.

This next wave of AI has the potential to solve some of our biggest challenges, from labour shortages to an aging population. However, these technological advancements also present new challenges, from privacy and safety to the ethical implications of creating intelligent, autonomous beings.

Still, now is the time to start preparing.

The future is coming faster than you think and it will be walking on two legs 😊
